RFID Journal hosted a virtual event titled “RFID and IoT for Inventory and Warehouse Management,” sponsored by Zebra Technologies and NXP Semiconductors. During this online event, the presenters explained how to benefit from deploying radio frequency identification technology at a warehouse by managing inventory and coordinating a supply chain.
The speakers offered real-world case studies explaining the tangible business benefits of how RFID can help an organization improve visibility regarding product movements and related transactions. What’s more, they outlined how the technology can increase efficiencies, lower labor costs, optimize inventory levels, track assets and differentiate a company’s logistic service in order to provide a competitive advantage.

End-to-End Supply Chain Visibility
Recent innovations have enhanced the ability of passive RFID to play a crucial role in improving supply chain performance. Using RFID alone or in combination with other edge technologies allows warehouse, distribution center, cross-dock and manufacturing plant operations to leverage the real-time location of tagged inventory and assets over a wide area of a facility to automatically track materials and assets through a supply chain, as well as locate people in targeted areas to optimize time and assign tasks. This session discussed these capabilities, the best time and conditions to apply them, and how they can be utilized to raise performance, increase inventory control and reduce costs.

Building Your RFID Business Case
RFID provides advantages over other automated-identification technologies within supply chains and inventory-management processes. In order to build a realistic business case and justify an investment, both qualitatively and quantifiably, a company must accurately evaluate RFID’s marginal impact and benefits over existing technologies. This session explored how to measure RFID’s impact on supply chain process performance by using specific key performance indicators. In addition, the presenters explained how to document an RFID business case at a facility and throughout a supply chain.
